Prayers at Twilight

Catalog, Collection / Tuesday, July 15th, 2003

Arthur O. Roberts, author of Exploring Heaven: What Great Christians Thinkers Tell Us about Our Afterlife with God, uses a variety of voices in these prayers that ask questions and express concerns about death.

Disequilibrium

My physicist friend tells me time
is a marker of physical disequilibrium.
I’m not quite sure what this means for heaven.
I hope it means that your whole creation,
no longer groaning under the weight of sin,
will explode with sanctified energy,
in which I can participate creatively.
Being a diorama statue isn’t my idea
of eternity. I hope it isn’t yours!
If I’m to continue in some way being me,
I’d like to continue active in mind and body.
As my creator I think you’ll agree.
